(Cephalopholis sonnerati)
The body is orange-red to red-brown, often with occasional white spots. On the head are close-set orange-red eyes. The fins are usually darker than the body. The largest recorded length is 57 cm. It occurs at moderate depths in lagoons and among steeply dipping reefs, in caves. They feed mainly on fish, as well as various crustaceans, including crabs and shrimp.
